Iva Ambush & Jazz Ambuscade

Iva Jean Ambush, a Frederick, Maryland native, is not just a jazz vocalist; she is a virtuoso of scat singing whose talent transcends boundaries, earning her acclaim on both local and international stages. Recently bestowed with the prestigious Billie Holiday Competition honor, Ms. Ambush has graced renowned venues worldwide, including the DC Jazz Festival, Birdland, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. From the stages of the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival to the international spotlight of Le Duc des Lombards, Ms. Ambush's performances are a mesmerizing fusion of skill and passion, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz scene. Collaborating with legends like Sheila Jordan, Dr. Horace Boyer, and Ronnie Wells, she delves deep into jazz phrasing and rhythms, honing her craft to perfection.

Born into a family immersed in jazz, Ms. Ambush counts luminaries like the late trumpeter Lester Bowie, bassist Scott Ambush (Spyro Gyra), and saxophonist/composer/arranger Byron Bowie among her relatives. Drawing inspiration from this rich lineage, she is currently crafting her latest EP, "Mosaic Voices of Four Women," paying homage to icons Abbey Lincoln, Lena Horne, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and Nina Simone. Through her music, Ms. Ambush aims to elevate the voice as the epitome of syncopation—an instrument, a language, and a conversation. With each note, she continues to carve her place as a leading voice in the contemporary jazz landscape.
